Dead Mike's External Leg Fixator

legFixator3.jpg (22214 bytes) My knees were the first part of my body to impact on the tarmac.  My left knee first, then my right, probably almost simultaneously.  The difference was enough to cause slightly greater damage to my left knee.

In order to stabilize my legs, the fixators were attached.  They are screwed into my bone, both the thigh and the shin on both legs, and basically prevent any form of movement at my knees.

These external fixators were placed on my legs the  day after the accident, August 4, 1997.

They were not removed until August 26, 1997 when I underwent my first knee reconstruction.

legFixator1.jpg (33961 bytes) Seen from a side angle, you can't quite see that each shin has three bolts and each thigh has two bolts screwed into from the fixator.

Notice my right knee (bottom) and the lesion caused from my femur penetrating directly through my skin.  The left knee has a similar lesion, except it ran vertically and resembled an "I"

Also notice how the left knee looks flattened out due to the shattered kneecap and blown patellar tendon.
