Dead Mike Left Knee Tendon Replacement

Clearly we can see the achilles tendon is now attached to the existing patellar tendon  which has been cleaned up of scar tissue and now resembles a normal, blockish patellar tendon.

My quaricep muscle had lost a lot of mass due to atrophy, the actual accident and disuse.  All of this added up to shorten the actual quad muscle.  A specific technique known as the VY advance was used to lengthen the quadricep, allowing the surgeons room to attach the donor tendon.

vyAdvance.jpg (6035 bytes)The VY advance technique procedure starts by making a 'V' like incision in my quad.  That 'V' flap is then folded towards my shin and the flap hole is sewn together until it makes a 'T' pattern in the muscle.  The 'V' flap is now pointing 180 degrees around and is extended enough to attach the achilles tendon.

Viola! The final product!  A masterpiece, no?

You can just see the 'V' flap at the very right where the achilles tendon is attached to the quadricep.

How does it feel?  Very, very tight.  Very big.   Like someone kicked me really hard in the shin, repeatedly, over and over again.   Then they kicked me some more.

yeah, that's it
